More Defections from Carter's Anti-Israel Crusade

Turning to the protests over Jimmy Carter’s take-donations-from-the-Saudis and slam-Israel approach to Middle East politics, there are fresh defections today from the Carter Center, where the founder of the Middle East program, Kenneth Stein, resigned last month in protest over Carter’s book: “Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid,” and an Emory University anthropologist, Melvin Konner, refused to serve on an advisory group to Carter, accusing him of a “callous disregard for the relevant facts of history,” and of setting back, rather than advancing the debate. Today, 14 members of the Carter Center’s Board of Councilors resigned, sending Carter a letter in which they accused him of “malicious advocacy” and wrote “we can no longer endorse your strident and uncompromising position.”

If Carter won’t recant, maybe he can at least issue a revised edition of his book, including a full and detailed list of his Carter Center’s sources of funding.

Has there ever been a more despicable ex-President? I'm not a history specialist, but I have never heard of any ex-President being as stridently malignant towards a current Prez (as Carter is to Bush 43 and even was to Bush 41), than Carter.

This on top of his constant and despicable moral relativism which has come on the heels of what may be regarded as the worst Presidency of the 20th Century. If anyone out there with more historical knowledge (or a further reaching memory than a 37 year old) is aware of any other Ex-Prez behaving this poorly, can you let me know who it was? I'd have to doubt there is one. Of all the ex-Prez's I've been old enough to remember, only Clinton (to a much lesser degree) has been openly critical of a current Prez.

President John Tyler (1841-45). In 1861 he voted for Virginia to secede from the United States, and then was elected to serve in the Confererate Congress. He died before the "Congress" met. Months ago I saw a clip of Carter on the BBC condemning Tony Blair for his support of US foreign policy. I thought then that that was beyond the pale.

I seem to remember other dealings during his so-called term (read disgrace)of office. During his term we had the Iran Hostage Crisis. I seem to remember the hostages were released on the day that Ronald Reagan was sworn into office.

The Anti-Defamation League has posted some fascinating quotes from fascist and Holocaust-denying web sites. The Jew-haters know who their friends are. There are lots more people on the Carter Center board who haven't resigned; for many liberals, their liberalism trumps every other value. Let's hope that the vicious public statements by antisemites will be the reality that mugs such liberals.

Carter is mainly responsible for the Islamist mess and 000s of life lost. His inability to understand politics due to his background, made certain European leader to promote him to defender of human rights. A title Carter really doesn't understand the meaning of. The most important thing he has done in his entire life is building some houses. That is his specialty not politics.

Carter doesn't deserve to have US Presidency title, never did. He allowed Khomeini whose main and stated mission was to destroy US to come to power. The result is what we see now in the world. 9/11 is direct result of Carter presidency.

More importantly the entire Khomeinist regime was established based on anti-Israeli and anti-US slogan. In the entire history of mankind no other regime and all of its mullah-leaders including Khomeinei, Kamenehi, Khatami (KKK)Rafsan-Jani, Ahmadinejad have been these much against Israel and have caused so much doubts in the heart and mind of the people about existence of Israel and US policies.
No Arab country as much as backward they are, have created these much problem as Khomeinists. Khomeinists forced educated Iranians to cooperate with the regime to run its propaganda machine against Israel and US. 24/7 Mulluacry propaganda machinery, position Arabs in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Bahrain, even now in UAE. They even brain wash people from Beverly Hill (Salam TV). No Islamists political power existed before Carter.

I believe Carter contributions to man kind is as much as Hitler, Stalin, Khomeini. The must be called HSCK gang (Highley Sick). Each HSCK member is responsible for Millions of innocent people being murdered.

Under Carter we had double digit inflation, intrest rates and unemployment. Gas shortages, and the Soviets invaded Afganistan because they knew Carter would do nothing. Oh yeah in protest he kept the American Olympic team home, whitch resulted in a Russian sweep. He was weak beyond the pale. And still is

They all should have had the sense not to affiliate with the Carter Center in the first place. Carter, this legend in his own mind, had already done far more than most to damage American interests in the Middle East.

Mr. Carter has been as big a disappointment to me in retirement as he was in office. While I appreciate the great things he is doing for Habitat for Humanity, is it any wonder that the worst president of the 20th century is the worst ex-president of the 21st?

Jan 12, 2007 09:59 AM

bourne2y :

So everyone is piling on Jimmy Carter. Surely there MUST be something positive that can be said about this man?

Habitat for Humanity - already mentioned. Anything else?

um . . .

um . . .

Never mind.

bourne2y: The Carter Center has actually done *fantastic* work on health and preventative medicine in Africa. Unfortunately since you can't bash the US or Israel with it, it doesn't get much press coverage and Carter himself doesn't tout it much compared to his more noxious and preferred grandstanding.

"The Carter Center has actually done *fantastic* work on health and preventative medicine in Africa."

OK. That makes two things.

Jimmy Carter also brought to light the fact that there are giant killer rabbits located on a lake in the state of Georgia. He was attacked by one of these visicious rabbits while fishing. He wacked it with his boat oar. God Bless you Jimmy, you brave peanut head!

cfbleachers :

In September 1978 Billy Carter made a highly publicized trip to Libya with a group of Georgia businessmen and politicians scoping out ways to make some cash.

After several weeks, he then brought the Libyans to Georgia, to glad hand and hopefully consummate a deal.

Brother Billy was quoted as saying, "The only thing I can say is there is a hell of a lot more Arabians than there is Jews."

And this: " the Jewish media tore up the Arab countries full-time,"

He later obtained a $220,000 "loan" from Libyans but it is not clear whether he peed on any of their lawns.

While Jimmy has a much more polished veneer than Billy ever did, it appears that the messages they deliver appear strikingly similar.

Jimmy can swill Chateau Margaux and chomp on beluga caviar, while Billy had a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon and pretzels...but it certainly appears that for the Carter boys, it was all about the numbers.

A billion plus vs. 16 million and in the Carter household, it was a foregone conclusion that no Jewish person was going to get a fair sheikh.

Carter would surely be the worst President in modern history. But for Carter refusing to save the Shah we have Iran as a major threat. The best thing he could do is go back to his peanut farm as he really is a peanut

Out of 200 members - a 7% resignation. Hardly a mass protest.

All of the above is true, the lack of action on Carters part will resound through history. I recall in 1980 carter told us that "things were not going to improve and we better get use to it"

spynverzyon :

cfbleachers: good to see you here, and great call on Billy.

In the interest of fairness and balance, I would like to remind you all of the creativity and boldness of Carter's forward-thinking foreign policy. Have you forgotten that it was Carter who established the doctrine of "Pointless, Pre-emptive Surrender," epitomized by the president's unilateral decision to make U.S. athletes forfeit their prospective victories at the 1980 Moscow Olympics before the competition had even opened?

This stroke of brilliance set in motion a diabolically Machiavellian process by which, four years later, the Soviets were deftly manipulated into forfeiting the 1984 Games in Los Angeles. As a true visionary, Carter of course knew that Reagan would get all the credit for U.S. athletes' dominance in L.A., and that the result would be a landslide victory for Reagan the following November. With an electoral mandate in hand - compliments of Jimmy Carter's clairvoyance and public-spirited largesse - Reagan had the necessary political capital to bomb Ghadafi whenever he felt like it, thus enacting Carter's final revenge against the Libyans who had so cluelessly been taken in by Billy's cleverly orchestrated and deceptive overtures to them several years before. So we have Carter to thank for Libya's disappearance from the terror-sponsoring industry for a good long time after 1986.

While some may find his current overtures to the Palestinians and accompanying condemnation of Israel troubling, for those who have eyes to see, it's plain that he is setting up the Palis the same way he set up the Libyans. We must all admire his genius, and wish him perfect success in this new venture.

Least we not forget, the US Navy recently named the latest, most advanced submarine ever made after this weakling of a President. Who the heck thought that was a good idea.

Has everyone forgot about the Carter Institute, mostly the ex-prez, giving his blessing on the "legitimacy" of the elections in Venezuela. All by himself Carter condemned many to a slow and painful death. How much did Chavez donate to the Carter Inst.?

Bullet :

Sorry, Carter was not the worse pres we ever had. He never tried to eradicate the Consitution the way Bush has. Nor did he involve the US in an illegal war. Nor did he work against the common working guy.
He tried to stop US funding of petty-assed tyrants the world over and was kicked for it. He cut off aid to Chile, Iraq, and Argentina because they were corrupt and inhumane. Regan reversed his policies and gave billions to countries like Iraq, so now we pay for Regans' mistakes and not Carter's.
He signed off on the Panama canal because it was in Panama and not New Jersey. The original treaty was for 50 years, then extended to 1975. The Panamanians wanted their country back, so we gave it back. The canal is still independent and so far no one has tried to stop America from using it.
The economy was a mess before Carter came to office. Nixon's wage and price controls failed completely and Ford didn't have the time to correct the real problem of paying off the Vietnam war debt. Something very similiar is happening now, we are in debt because of a war, and a crash is looming.
Iran was in chaos after the Shah ran for the hills with the national treasury, then Kissinger tried to hide the Shah in Egypt. If someone tried to hide my former, corrupt president before I could hang him, I'd be pissed off also. America really needs to mind it's own buisness.
Carter's comments in his book really ticked off a lot of people. Especialy those who haven't read the book.
Too bad, but they'll get over it. Read the book and make up your own mind, don't depend on others to tell you what to think or what to say.
Carter lived and goverened by his christian principals, and regardless of what anyone says, he's still better then George Bush.
